I’m currently trying to introduce my two gerbils, Urchin and Waffles. They are both 8-10 week old males. They have been living in a split cage for just under a week now, so I decided while switching them over I would let them both out for a bit and see how they react to each other.
For some more context, I originally had them in a ‘bin inside a bin’ type of thing as I didn’t have a split cage divider, but I made one the following day and I have been switching them over around 3 times a day since then.
When I first got them, I remember leaving both bins open for a few minutes while I went downstairs and when I came back upstairs Urchin (the agouti) was running around all over my floor! I wasn’t there to see what happened but I realized one of them probably jumped over the side of the cage, they got in a fight and Waffles chased him out of his ‘territory’ lol.
The following day, I made a split cage divider and put each of them on either side. I observed them for a while and later went to the bathroom because I thought the divider was secure.. I guess in the short time that I was in the bathroom one of them got to the other side of the divider because when I came back they were full on scrapping (ball of death). No blood though. I had to rip them apart, fix the divider so that it was more secure and separate them again. They have been separated since then (about 6 days ago) but I continued swapping them to either side 3 times a day.
Not sure if any of that info is meaningful but I thought I would include it in case those incidents are going to impact whether they will get along in the long run or if I should leave them separated for longer.
Based on my observations of their interaction today on my chair it looks like they are getting along more nicely now, but I wanted to get some advice on if you think they are ready to be put together or need some more time apart. Right now they are back in the split and I was planning on leaving the divider in for a few more days before putting them together. Thoughts?

Btw ignore my roommate talking in the background LOL. The clips were sped up, in total they were together for about 10-15 mins.
