I should probably have clarified - all agouti-based gerbils have white bellies but not all gerbils with white bellies are agouti-based. For example spotted gerbils always have white bellies. Plus white gerbils of any variety as mentioned above. And most gerbils have a belly that's a little paler than the rest of them anyway.
Just to confuse things even more!

I forgot about spotting!!!!!
When I talk genetics, I always ignore the spotting (as the spotting doesn't change the genetics). More white tummies indeed...

Thanks so much for all the help, I'm reading Shooting star's paper right now, and already have the new gerbils on the way. Thank you again! All the detailed descriptions and posts mean a lot, and have helped a lot!
