My gerbil Dino sadly passed last night and I'm trying to find someone who would be able to adopt his brother, Zym. I don't think I can keep him or introduce him to another gerbil myself as I'm going to college soon. He is 2 (born October 2021). Zym appears to be healthy and spry as ever. Still, I plan on taking him to the vet just in case it was a disease. It doesn't seem like a declan occurred. I suspect Dino had a genetic condition; he'd always been sluggish and worried me more than Zym did (droopy eyelids, bad teeth, generally odd behavior), but he seemed well as ever just a week ago. He deteriorated very quickly. He and Zym were at the vet just this winter and the vet said nothing was wrong, but then again you can't have a very thorough checkup with two squirmy gerbils. I have plenty of supplies that are available to be given away as well, including their main tank, which is around 800 sq in of floorspace, as well as a smaller spare. Other things include water bowls, platforms, 12 inch wheel and miscellaneous bridges/chew toys/huts. You can choose what you want to take, and I will disinfect everything. Please let me know if you or anyone you know is interested. I'm in North Carolina. Attached is a picture of Zym

Hi there. I'm sorry to hear about Dino's passing. Sounds like it may have been genetic, although having Zym checked is probably a good idea, and I think me and everyone else really appreciates how thorough you're being.
I'm in New Mexico, so I don't think I could drive to you, however, I'm currently looking into animal transports, so if I can arrange transport I will be happy to take Zym as well as the supplies. I will also see if there's anyone near you who might be able to take him.
I hope you're doing okay, and that Zym finds a good home soon.

I hope you're able to find the transports you're looking for.

Of course. I understand how stressful it can be if you have to quickly rehome a pet. I'm really sorry you're going through that. I'm acquaintances with someone who ownes a petstore, and knows a lot about transports. He's given me a couple people to call, which I will look into. If I'm able to work out a transport, given the distance, would you be able to split the cost? Gerbils technically can be shipped, but it can be hard on them. Especially due to his age I wouldn't reccomend it, however, if it came down to it, it might be possible. Otherwise, if you're able you could put up an ad on the internet, that could also be helpful.

Sorry for the late response, but yeah, I would be able to split the cost if a transport is arranged. I’ve been asking around elsewhere as well. If not, I’ll keep him and see what I can do in terms of introducing a new gerbil through split cage (my brother said he would be happy to take them after I move out). Thank you for the replies and the help!

Okay! I've been busy, so I haven't been able to look into the animal transports yet, but I'll see if I can do that this week. When are you leaving? At what time do they absolutely need a home? That's great that they have a place to go if necessary, and of course if you decide to go through the split intro, me and many others on the forum are always here to help if you need it.
