Thought I’d just share my new detolf set up for my two boys (pups I’ve had for three weeks) ‘Little Baby Blondie’ and ‘The Spinner.’ I’m aware in the photos there are no water bottles, these were in the kitchen waiting to be washed, they’re in there now. I am also in the process of making a lid for the tank out of timber and mesh. Any advice of what wood is best to use or what I should avoid would be appreciated. At the moment I leave the tank open whenever I’m in the room to ventilate it because they’re still small enough they aren’t jumping out yet and are easy to keep an eye on. But I’d like to have a ventilated lid for the long term. Again, any advice on the best way to achieve this would be appreciated. Also, any suggestions or comments are welcomed, pleased to be here. Welcome to the forum! That Detolf looks nice; I like how it is aimed at providing lots of activity for the gerbils. Is there an adress visible on the first photo? Maybe better change it ...

What a great space for gerbils! I am new to gerbil keeping and didn't even realize turning a glass cabinet on its side could be a habitat for gerbils. One question.....with a solid glass door how is the ventilation? Thanks

Fantastic setup! Although yea, ventilation is going to be a problem, if their are no holes at all in the glass lid I wouldn't like to say how long the air would last, but it's not safe to leave it like that (again assuming their are no ventilation holes at all). Even if it does have holes or slots, humidity could be a problem due to insufficient air flow. I would say you'd need to sort out a mesh lid ASAP, rather than in the longer term (re-reading it again, I see you mentioned you're already making one, so maybe that's sorted already ). Btw, once you have a meshed lid, you might find that with bedding and things reaching to their roof, they might incessantly chew the lid, they probably won't mind, but you might! That aside, great 1st setup anyway
