Does a larger cage mean you will see them less often?

I was wondering if moving gerbils into a 36" X 18" X 16" cage from a 30" X 12" X 12" cage mean they will stay in their burrows most of the time?
We used to see them and interact with them several times a day when they were in their smaller cage. Both cages have toppers. They both used to come out and get on the exercise wheel and explore their topper and the chew toys there. Now with the big new topper, they are staying in their burrows most all the time. 

When I moved them I put most of their bedding from the smaller cage into the larger cage and had lots of tunnels and hides buried at the bottom of the larger cage for them to have fun with. It has been three days now and Cream I have not seen for over 24 hours. She could be coming out at night when I am not here to drink and eat and exercise on the wheel. I have seen Coco a couple of short times in the past three days. I have chews for them and I don't hear them scratching on their houses like they used to and I don't hear any chewing of cardboard either. 

Should I be concerned? Should I wait a few more days, maybe they are getting used to the new cage?

This does often happen when gerbils are first moved to a larger cage, but they should start coming out as normal again once they've settled in. They're probably very busy getting their burrows just right.

If you haven't seen Cream at all for over 24 hours, I'd go digging until you find her personally, just to make sure she's okay. She's probably just being elusive but it's best to check.

Thank you, LilyandDaisy, for your input on this. Yesterday I did see both of them by the evening. Coco was back on her wheel for hours and cream came up to the top of the bedding checking things out as normal. Cream hasn't come up into the topper much yet, but I am much more at ease now that they are fine. Just settling in as you say. Thanks again!

Just an update: Both Cream and Coco have been up on the topper for hours this evening running all over the place chasing each other, getting in the sand bath, running on the wheel, drinking and eating. All is well.
They are characters for sure.
