Hi guys, I just came back from work, and I found that one of my gerbils was chasing the other and had bit its tail off. Once i separated those 2, the mother also started chasing the injured one. What should I do now?
They have a glass cage 100x40x50, and they live together in one house (their mom and the 2 sisters)
What do I do now? Do I get a separate cage for the injured sister? Can she even live alone?
Rn she's in a different plastic cage with chicken wire as a lid right next to her mom and sisters cage
Please help me

Oh bless you. That’s not a nice scene to return home to. You’ve done everything right by separating the injured one. I’d imagine the mother and other daughter can still stay together unless you notice any negative signs between the pair of them. Are you able to get the vets to get the injured one checked out? She will need pain meds and possibly something to stop infection. You also don’t know what has caused the declan in the first place so there could be an underlying health issue.
You will need a separate cage as a declan of that level is unlikely to end well if you try to reintroduce. It’s safer to permanently separate once blood is drawn. She will need a cagemate once she’s healed as I imagine she’s still young, but you have a little bit of time to cross that bridge.

Yes, I hope it is good news about the mother and other daughter staying friends. Female group declans can seem so messy at first until everyone settles back down.
What a terribly sad thing to come home to.
