Advice please - we have two gerbils around 2 1/2 years old. One has suddenly become unwell. She was on top form until Sunday evening when she seemed very lethargic. We took her to the vets on Monday and we were told that her heart was good, her chest sounded clear and she was a good weight and her coat looked good. We were prescribed baytril and an anti inflammatory medicine incase it was the start of a respiratory infection. She seemed to perk up initially but today she is lethargic again and is now clicking. This is after four days of medication. Is there anything else we can do? This is just heartbreaking 💔

Hello,
Sorry to hear your gerbil is unwell.
How are you giving the medication? Just from the syringe, or in any food? Giving Baytril with dairy products can reduce its effectiveness (worth mentioning as sometimes people give it with yoghurt).
It's possible that this isn't a respiratory infection. If she's started clicking since seeing the vet, despite the antibiotics, I would recommend taking her back to be examined again as this could be something like fluid in her lungs due to heart failure. Heart failure can progress very rapidly so she may not have had the fluid when she originally saw the vet.
It's also possible that if this is a respiratory infection, it's not one that responds to Baytril and maybe she needs another antibiotic on top/instead of Baytril.

Just the medication on its own. It’s heartbreaking to see her like this
