Sorry to hear it's still not working out. If they don't seem to be making any progress, perhaps it is best to call it a day on this introduction.
Single pup introductions very rarely fail, especially if you get a very young pup of about 6 weeks. I tend to split tank for anything from a few hours to a couple of days before introducing.

Indeed.
I have persevered with some very long splits where grumpiness was occuring - but they had to start as permanents, and gradually shrink in size and freedom until we were ready for the actual split intro. It was life-long permanent pairing once they got to the actual intro - however it took a long time and perhaps at times, not actually fun for the gerbils.
If you have space - young pups are such easy splits. Plus more gerbils - yay!!!
