Newbie here... Would this be suitable?

Hi everyone,

It's been well over 15 years since I owned gerbils and I am more than aware of how different caring for them now is way different back then.

I've kept Syrian and Dwarf Hamsters for years since and my previous Syrian (large male called Casper) passed away yesterday and am wondering what to do about his tank as it cost me a fair amount and seems a waste to just sell it considering I only bought it in January - see reason below lol.

I've fully cleaned and sanitised the tank and am wondering whether this would be suitable for gerbils - I shall put the Amazon Link to it below.

With mine, the back and sides have got thin glass around up to the venting (which is 3/4 up the tank) as well as a strong, vented top - as well as the glass up to the entrance door - mainly cause Casper was a chewer himself.

It's just over 100x50x50cm.

I am already planning on new wooden shelving (using non-treated birch planks) so I can put the wheel, food bowl, water bottle (in ceramic holder) and sand dish on.

I am hoping to get 2 gerbils in the future, but wanted to get some advice first.

Yes, the Bucatstate is a good option for gerbils. I have three of them myself.

Thank you - I thought it would be, but just wanted to check before I started properly planning for gerbils

I am really getting excited now as I'm realising just how much I have missed having them. I think having a very, very reclusive hamster (Casper - who passed away on Saturday), has made me think more and more about getting Gerbils again. I still have my little Dwarf Gizmo, who is very active (even during the day) and very cute (and gets away with it lol).

But it's going back over my previous Gerbil photos yesterday that made me really start up the research again - nice to know my tank is suitable to - and the endless possibilities with that tank I had with Casper was also useful.

This forum is great as I didn't know about it until someone I know said why don't I look on here.

Sorry for the late reply - but yes - this forum is a huge source of information and inspiration - still even for me - and I have been around for years now! I still find information that is useful to me tucked away in the old threads. Love it.

Looking though old gerbil pictures is great fun - although it always reminds me how many I have taken to have editted out most of the rubbish ones and STILL have hundreds dotted all over the place.
