Cardboard is great, of course. ;D Empty oatmeal boxes; the cardboard kind...let's see...safe exercise wheels are lots of fun but not for me at night when I'm trying to sleep! Wooden houses, you can make them yourself or buy them from a pet store...some good wooden chews...anyone have any more?

You can but all kind of wooden or metal toys in pet shops, or you can make them yourself!
I have big branches in their cage, and rocks where they can climb on! And of cource I'll give them all kind of cardboard items, like boxes, toilet rolls, etc.
Also carpet rolls are great! They are much harder and much more resistant to gnawing! And a rope is also much fun, but won't last very long. You can hang it in the cage! They will climb on it, and gnaw it into parts after a while (which than makes a good nesting material!

Those SAM things I heard were good, except as you said on that Housing page of your website, they're loud when gerbils decide to scratch inside of them and hard to clean.
Right now my gerbils are scratching the inside of an oatmeal container... ;D

Oh yes, I think everyone who has gerbils knows what you're saying! My gerbils scratch in everything if they have the chance! Also in their nesting boxes (flower pots). ;D But when I'm watching TV, than it can be sometimes annoying. ;D

Right now my gerbils are scratching the inside of an oatmeal container... ;D I HATE when they scratch in cardboard! lol I can only stand to listen to it for so long. They only do it when I put a new toy in. They scratch holes in it and then they gnaw on it. I don't mind the chewing. So now I only give them oatmeal containers and new boxes before I leave. By the time I come back, the box is usually half gone and sometimes they're even sleeping. ;D ;D ;D Mine don't really scratch in the SAM tubes though, and that doesn't annoy me as much. Carpet rolls - I tried that. They get bored with them cause they're not easy to chew. So they only pee on them.

Heh, urinated carpet rolls might get pretty smelly sometimes, huh? I haven't tried those yet...I don't think I will, though. I'll stick to the simple cardboard
