One of my gerbils' pastimes is climbing to the top of their exercise wheel (which is attached to the aquarium lid) and chewing the paint of the wheel's little thingamabobber. I may take a picture in the near future to help you understand what I'm talking about, but is paint bad for them?

It's probably non toxic paint anyways.
One of mine chews it and nothing has happened to him. ;D

I've now a gerbils in a wired tank, who chews on the bars, so he removes the paint there too. And he is still fine! (I'm still looking for an extra tank). And when I had still Syrian Hamsters, they did that too, and they became very old (for a hamster). I don't know if it is toxic or not! Maybe you could send a e-mail to the company who has made those wheels, maybethey can tell you that!
