Well we went to a show on saturday was great fun. Came home with a few new arrivals ;D if you didn't know me and darren have recently moved into our own place so the show felt a bit like I was a child again in a pet shop chooosing a pet for her birthday-only difference I was paying LOL... We came home with 2 female adult persian jirds, 2 very young male bushy tailed jirds (they look very much like shrews at the mo so hoping we haven't been ripped off LOL ) and a slate pied male with a golden agouti female Mongolians for breeding. I will get some piccys on as soon as British Telecom fix our phone line at home .. We also did well in the classes Our cheesmans got a first and second in gerbillus, our young siamese got a first and a special as he was one of the three narrowed down for best in show. Our slate male got a second - considering he was haveing a nasty moult not bad. and our pet shop honey got a third and our burmese female got a third. Andrea

Congratulations with your winner-gerbils and with you new arrivals!! ;D You win almost always something is't it?
So you will now have 4 gerbil species! Mongolians, Cheesmans, Persian and Bushy tailed! Right? I would love to see some pictures. And persians are not that common as the other three! Oh maybe they are, but I almost never hear something about that species from other people. I like bushy tailed jirds too, they look great!
Are the Persian jirds simular to Mongolians? Because they are both Meriones-gerbils?

We went to the show expecting to get some dipodils from Eddie, but after talking to him we decided the two persian jirds he was selling were more appropriate for what we wanted them for. Eddie rightly so describes dipodils as "furry fish" look but don't touch. i perticularly like to handle our gerbs so the persians seemed more appropriate.
We have very little information about the persians but they do seem quite similar to the mongolians other than they are a lot bigger!. The best way I can describe them is they are like cats, very elegant and slender. they even feel like a very small cat when you pick them up and boy are there nails just as sharp..
The bushys are great very entertaining and mischevious they make the cheesmans look well behaved !! . They seem to think i am a tree and its fair game to climb all over me.. they do look so much like shrews at the moment our two are 5 1/2 weeks old.
I have taken some pics but the internet at homes not working due to the phone line being down so i cannot upload them but I will as soon as its fixed.
Yes we now have mongolians, cheesmans, bushy tailed jirds and persian jirds.
