Ok, now I have a new baby gerbil looks about two or three months of age. Smaller than my other new one. Mocha may be 6-8 months old. Not sure. Anyway, this one is pale gray with pink skin and red eyes. I need a name for him. He seems a little less afraid of me than Mocha is. But then he is very much younger I believe. Got any good name sites to help me out with? Thanks, if you do!

Gosh, thanks! ;D I'm not sure I'll ever get them together however. It seems the new one is a bit nippy. He pulled my skin so hard it looked like he was going to take it with him. I blew in his face as suggested for biters. He let go very reluctantly. No blood, though. LOL I stupidly put him in Mocha's cage and that is when he started nipping me. Before that he would just sniff my hand. Oopsies! I dunno why I did that. Now I won't even try to put them together, I think. Oh well. This get together could take a very loong time. I don't have much patience these days.

Just because he nips. doesn't mean they won't get together. He nips humans, not gerbils . Did you put them in a split-cage? Here is the information on how to do it: www.petermaas.nl/gerbils/english.htmHe may have nipped you because he was a bit stressed from the introduction. Persistence is the key with nipping gerbils. Always give a puff of air in the face. Also, when you introduce your hand into the tank, curl all your fingers in so that he can't grab them.

The split-cage method.
1. Get yourself a tank or cage that you can split into two halves in a way that means that the gerbils on each side can see and smell one another but cannot bite or scratch one another through the bars.
2. Place one gerbil one side of the partition and the other on the other side.
3. Every two hours or so swap the gerbils around.
4. Do this for at least three days.
5. Remove the partition.
6. Watch your gerbils carefully for at least three hours. If they start to fight then start again from stage 2 above.
You can also place both your gerbils after using this method in another clean cage, when they every time keep fighting after removing the partition. They will come both in a new territory that don't belong to both gerbils. The other gerbil will be the only familiar thing they see and smell. You need to place enough hiding places in the new cage. Watch your gerbil again carefully for at least three hours.
