They squirm, then run, they jump, they hide, and they know just when I'm about to click the buttom to take their picture...cause that's when they dart off! ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) I've seen some really great pics. Nice close ups of cute little faces, some that look like they got their gerbils to pose...HOW? heather

Hey there birchmoon,
There are several ways to get stills and close ups. ONe way is to move something or make a noise. this causes them to stand up and look. Remember they are very curious. Another way is to give them some thing to eat.
Good luck!!

Not to say that my photos are all that great, but the decent ones I get are mostly luck, pushing the button at the right time purely by accident. If I get one photo out of 10, I've done a good day's work. I do, however, have quite a nice collection of tail photos. ;D
I've been trying all day to get some new photos of my boy trio, who have been particularly uncooperative. So far, I've taken around 60 shots and have maybe 5 that are worth saving.
Sometimes if you can catch them when they're distracted by something--chewing a tube, eating, smelling the air, running in the wheel, or whatever, it's easier.
For me, it's lots of luck and lots of tries.

Lots and lots of patience! What I did to get many of the profile shots on my website ( www.gerbilbreeding.com/mygerbs.htm) was to take pics of them running on my desk. I would focus on a spot right in front of the monitor, and when the gerbil ran into that small frame, I clicked the pic. My gerbils are pretty predictable, because they circle the monitor a few times and then go to that small space in front where I am focussing. Most of my best pics are of pups 8 days and under. Want to guess why? They don't move ;D. I find still life is a lot easier! Another thing I do when taking pics through the side of the tank is to turn off the flash. Then place a desk lamp beside the tank to give proper lighting. At least you don't get pics with the glass all white that way.

Awwwwwweeee....your babies are so sweet.
Was it that obvious I took them through the glass? Hehehe. I have all "through the glass" or "from above" shots of them. My rats are much easier to take pics of because they're pokey and slow. But we have 4 cats also, and I don't wanna chance it and let the gerbies run around outside the cages.

Oh, I wasn't commenting on your pics ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) . I just find that is a common problem when photographing gerbils.

When I take pictures of my gerbils, I'm glad I have a digital camera! Just take a couple of 20, and delete all the pictures that you don't like. Usually one or 2 pictures is good!
