I'm always impressed by the industriousness of my gerbils-- they will work together to move huge amounts of litter from one tank to another, or to make a new tunnel, or to move all the paper towel shreddings to a new nest location. I wonder how they communicate their ideas with one another? Maybe one just sees the other doing something, and joins in? They definitely seem to pick a new joint project every day. Does anybody know something about this topic?? Thanks!

Yes. They make ultrasonic squeaks. The squeaks we hear are the ones that are VERY loud.

Indeed, humans have bad ears...
They also communicate with sounds that we can hear and with thumping, body movements, feromones, scents, etc.
