How about putting a divider in their cage, one that allows them to see and smell each other, but not have any arguements. Swap their bedding over daily. Do this for about a week, then introduce them again. If you can't fit a divider in their cage, put a small wire cage inside your first gerb's cage, with the new gerb in.This way they can see and smell each other,as well as sniff noses etc.On a daily basis, swap the gerb's around,so they both spend equal time in the small cage.

Congrats on getting a new one. ;D Did you clean/wash the cage really well before putting them in it together? If not you should because it gets rid of the first gerbil's scent so there will be less chance of territorial issues. Do you know how old the new gerbil is? If she's really tiny and a baby, then you might not have to do a split cage intro. You could just leave them the way you have them now, just make sure you can watch them. Once they fall asleep together and groom eachother they'lll be fine. But if you're not sure on the age than ya should do a split cage introduction... Can read about that here.. www.petermaas.nl/gerbils/english.htmbasically just need to find some kind of wire screen thing to fit in the middle of the tank, and make sure they can't climb over it, get around it or dig under it. But can still smell and see eachother through it. And switch the gerbils from side to side every couple of hours.

Hm... Ok, well I didn't WASH the cage :-\ at first they just ignored eachtoher then boxed then I got my lil plastic critter transporter and tipped it sideways so they can sniff eachother it's inside the cage but they can't hurt eachother.. hopefully this will work, AND IF you know about mice.. I just got a new one because my white one wasn't mating with the female and the new one WANTS to mate but the female just squeaks and runs away.. anyhelp?

plastic cage will work too then. Could still clean it though.. it's not too late.
umm don't know anything about mice... But going by what I know about gerbils and other animals.. Squeaking and running away. Either the female isn't in heat or she's not ready to mate. Females mate when they're in heat, males want to mate ALL the time. Or she's just not ready to mate yet.. Even female gerbils will go through a few heat cycles or a few months before they finally decide they're ready.

Ok I took a WIRE MESH type aquarium lid and fitted it inside the long 30 gal tank I have and then scotch taped it precisely steadily down so they can now sniff eachother but are on opp sides, both have a house * wooden* and food.. i'll see how it goes :-D

Hi Kenshin, With regards your mice,it sounds as if J is correct, and the female either isn't in heat,or not ready. When you want to mate your mice, make sure you introduce the female mouse, into the male mouse's cage. Also, are you going to let them live together once mated ? Male mice are excellent father's.
