Hey I was wondering I am currently in Atlanta Georgia and I'm going up the beach and was going to take my mice and gerbil's, will the change in climate hurt them? The place is Sand Destin Fl.

Hello,
It depends. Are you going to be in air conditioning? They should not have extremes in temperature or humidity. Are they in air conditioning now where you live? Are you going to be staying in an air conditioned place? I know gerbils wll get stressed out on the ride. I took mine from Maine where we bought her to South Carolina where we live. She needed to adjust for a while after. Also, how long is the drive and how long are you staying? Good luck.
I am not sure about mice.

Destin is an AWESOME beach. I went there last year! I would probably recomend leaving the rodents home and have someone take care of them. It would be quite a hassel taking them along.

My gerbils travel very well. For travelling, have them in a smaller cage.Don't have anything that is heavy, that if the car breaks will hit and possibly injure your gerbils.I provide a couple of toilet rolls for entertainment, bit like the gerbil version of an inflight movie . Plenty of hay for them to hide under and nibble.I would scatter some of their usual food for the journey,on the floor of the cage.Take a water bottle with you,but don't have it attached whilst your car is in motion,or it may leak everywhere. When you stop for you to take a leak, stretch your legs etc.,then offer them a drink. Also take some veggie stuff,I suggest cucumber and grapes. You may need to pierce the grapes,so your gerbils realise there is moisture inside, this should provide enough fluid for the journey. Also, decide where in your car, the best place for their cage is going to be.Car's do get very hot,so you will need to check that they do not overheat.maybe travel at night or early evening,so you don't run the risk of heatstroke.
