Random question-- I know most gerbil sounds are outside human hearing range. Does anyone know if human voices are outside gerbil hearing range? I talk to nees and goat sometimes... I think they hear me. I can't always tell.

Bucky & Ginger can definitely hear me, and I think they're starting to recognize their individual names (or maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part.)
I've read that gerbils' hearing is better than their eyesight, so often I worry that I'm speaking too loudly to them. I have to remind myself to tone it down around them.
I also read that it's a good idea to start speaking before entering the room where the gerbs live, so they know you're coming and you don't startle them. I find that helps reduce instances of them shooting around the tank like frightened little rockets.

Great suggestions Sim,
Mine all hear me and most respond to individual names. Of course it is selective like any one or any thing else LOL.
