How old are gerbils when they reach their final size? Ours 2 males are about 6 month old and still seem smaller than some you see in shops. is there such thing as dwarfed gerbils?

I think that gerbils will continue to grow up until 8 months. Mine are 7 months and seem to have finished growing. Gerbils are all different sizes. It depends on the "blood" lines of the gerbils. For examples, some breeders have bigger gerbils than say the pet stores. There are a variety of factors that contribute to size. I do not think that there are dwarf gerbils though.
Peter?? What do you think?

As far as I know there are indeed no dwarf gerbils, but size can vary a bit. I've males that are not completely the same size too, but they do not grow any more. See it as the same thing as with us, we can be large, average or small too! Between males and females there is in captivity a difference too. The males are 10-20% heavier than the females. In the wild there is NOT a difference in the weight between the males and the females, both weight in the wild about 60 gram. This shows that it can differ within the same species. And some gerbils LOOK bigger, but are in fact more FAT, too fat sometimes! ;D

Nutrition plays a big part in size both in gerbils and in people. Studies have shown, for example, that African Pygmies and other "short" peoples have no differences in height when they grow up eating well in America.
Gerbils show the same sort of thing, pups that have been poorly fed are smaller.

i also think its a weight thing, cuz 1 of my cats, Amie, is really fat, mor fat than my other cat, Gracie who is actually older, and they r the same size, but amie looks bigger cuz shes fatter!

I have had my baby gerbils for 2 weeks and a day. They have noticeably grown and filled out in these past two weeks. They are looking good! They almost look like they have almost doubled their size. As far as when they are done growing, I don't know, but I thought it was a lot sooner than 7 or 8 months!

Mine seemed to stop around 7/8 months. I think they stop like at around 4 or 5 and shoot up again. Not a weight thing for mine, i mostly noticed it with the height when they're standing or sitting up.
