Please do not pick him up by the tail, it could break off . I'm sure he doesn't appreciate your grabbing him by the legs either, that's cruel. The best way to pick up a gerbil is by cupping them between your two hands. I find the best way to take pictures is when they are on an object (like a desk) rather than in your hand.

I am not sure that those pictures even belong on this website since it is not the appropriate way to handle gerbils. I have made a decision to delete it so as not to invite that kind of treatment. Nicky, It appears that you have a very healthy gerbil and you may have done this with him in the past. I am not sure if it some thing that he enjoys (and he might), but I do not want to condone that type of handling by others. There are some younger visitors/ members and perhaps some older visitors/ members who may attempt it because they have seen it. Please don't be offended that I have deleted the pictures. If you would like to post other pictures of your gerbils, we would love to see them as long as they do not violate proper handling techniques.
