Well my colorpoint pups will be ready for new homes last day of Feb, and a few of the inquiries I've gotten are from people in Tennessee (I live in Rochester, NY), so I was hoping someone would know how much shipping would cost from here to there, or know where I can find this out.
Also more tips on safe housing for the gerbils while they're on board, I know it gets really cold below the plane, where the cargo is, or how much that extra insulation/housing would cost, so it's as safe as possible for them. ;D

I have shipped in winter but a short flight only. I packed 3 small locked plastic carry bins wrapped in metal mesh into a big box, with shredded paper as insulation around them. The gerbils had a thick layer of aspen bedding in the carriers and I made sure there were at least 2 per container to keep each other warm. They each got lots of food and a couple sticks of celery to give them moisture. All arrived in great condition. I made sure both the shipper and reciever had exact info about where the gerbils were going and when they were arriving so they would not get stuck waiting long on tarmac. The box was labelled FRAGILE, LIVE BREEDING STOCK, KEEP UPRIGHT AT ALL TIMES.

Thanks Sandy- it does sound like a long flight, and I completely forgot about how much colder it would be for them in winter:-/ I've found homes for at least 6/8 pups, so maybe I won't have to ship after all ;D But it's good to know I have that option in the future, and how to safely prepare them for the flight. Where did you find out how much it would cost? Just calling the individual airlines? Thanks again!! oh, and did Tamhil have her babies yet?;D

Oh, that's good! Yes, Tamihi had her pups, they are posted in the breeding section. Lovely pied and mottled black pups just like mom and dad, and one sapphire.
I searched online for a shipping company that operates out of our nearest international airport and found one, then called them about their animal shipment policies and costs.
