I wouldn't expect tape to cause a gerbil any problems, especially if the gerbil just chewed it up and didn't eat it. With glue though,it would depend I imagine on the type of glue.A glue aimed at young pre-school children I would not expect to harm a gerbil, but a strong industrial type could well be a different matter.Better to play safe and not allow a gerbil access to it.

If it was dangerous, I hope your gerbil didn't get hurt...

I just got a new 10 gallon tank (the first one i've had for gerbils) and my little baby started chewing on the corners where the glue is. Is this a problem? Thanks, [glow=red,2,300]PiffTheGerbL[/glow]

It's not glue it's silicone which is inert and shouldn't do any harm unless they ingest large pieces. I think you'll be fine tbh

What are you planning to make ? The stuff used in tanks is aquarium sealant, once it is dry it should be perfectly safe for gerbils. Also, depending on what you are planning to make, might be suitable to use.Ensure you buy aquarium sealant, available from aquatic supplies/shops,rather than the silicone sealants used by builder's etc.available from D.I.Y. stores and builders merchants. Once you have sealed/stuck something with it,any excess can be wiped away whilst it is still soft.Often aquariums have the excess left,I assume this is because most fish kept in tanks do not have teeth to chew it ;D and to ensure the tank is completely water tight.Neither of these apply with gerb's.
