Yes it can be done but most vets won't risk it. Vets experienced with small animals may, it will be expensive as well. I've never had a gerbil neutered myself

One of the moderators, Queenofthenile has neutered her gerbil. You can visit her website for more information and photos. But make sure that your vet has experience with this, before you do this. www.gerbilbreeding.com/mating.htm

You *could* neuter your gerbil if it is male, but if it is female, I doubt there are any vets that would spay her. It would be much easier to just introduce a new gerbil of the same sex. Same sex pairings work out very well.

Hey Brandon,
I recently had 2 of my males nuetered. The vet I went to took out the testicles and sewed inside stitches then glued the outer skin layer. The healed up nicely and I no longer have to worry about litters of pups.
I had 2 breeding pair. One pair had 2 litters of 5 pups each the other pair had 2 litters the first 8 pups the second 5 pups. I had the litters back to back and had 15 pups at one time. It is hard to adopt them all out. I decided to nueter to keep from having pups. I could not bear to separate the pairs! They were so cute together.
