I was cleaning my gerbil's cage (well taking a break). She was happy in her ball, my sister watching her. All of a sudden she's yelling SUGER'S OUT SUGER'S OUT. MY DAD AND i RAN WITH MY mom behind us. Her ball had come open and she was circling it. My dad grabed her and I would not let go.

You are lucky to have caught her. I was not so lucky, when my mom left the cage open with no one home. Sandy got out and fell down an open a/c vent.

Hello,
Good job catching her. I agree that the lids do have a tendency to fall off. Mine did. After use, they become loose and if bumped against a wall or other object, they open up. I use tape to secure the lid. My gerbils love the balls and so do I but I would much prefer that they are safe and secure inside them. A little tape will help and everyone will be happy.

It's always so hard to catch runaway gerbs...

I find that the easiest way to catch gerbils, especially fast pups, is to put a large fish net on the ground...they'll be curious of it, and walk over to it, and most of the time, they'll walk right on top. Then you just grab it, and they're stuck in the net ;D If they're scared, they'll try to climb out, so I have perfected the technique of flipping the net over a bit, so that the gerbil can't get out. Then I take her/him out of the net, and back into the tank. No chasing involved!

Yes, I agreee a fish net works wonderfully. I actually got one a while back to catch hard to get gerbils when I was short on time and needed to get them back to thier homes.
