I'd like to get a good gerbil book that updated. I want something that a little more substantial though. There are so many books out there for rodents in particular that are to simply written and seem more geared towards young children.. I want something that covers everything, in depth info about breeding, nutrition behavior, I’m sure you know what I getting at. So if someone here can recommend a few good gerbil books that would be great! Thanks

Hi Tiri,
I have yet to find one. I went to the library to get info and all the books were 70's 80's and early 90's. No indepth current info. Sorry. Maybe some one else has found one.

There are usually great books on amazon and barns and nobel that are new, I just would like to know what ones are more recomended. I dont think Libraries are always up on the newest rodent books that come out every year or so You can usually find good ones in pet stores.

You are right about Libraries being post dated and about good info books on Amazon etc. I got one of mine in a petstore and it was really geared toward younger kids.

Ya there are good books in pet stores but they are geared toward younger children it seems. Last year for Christmas I asked for a good book about hamsters and made sure to say it needed a breeding section, thinking that would guarantee me a good quality book.
Well I got my hamster book and it did have a breeding section but it was pretty thin in pages and was geared more towards children. Then a few weeks later I stopped at Barns and Nobel bookstore and found an amazing book about hamsters!
It’s better when you can flip through the pages yourself.

The Ultimate Encyclopedia of Small Pets and Petcare is very good. David Aldertaon, Publisher Hermes House. ISBN 1-84309-484-3
Teh Mongolian Gerbil, a guide for teachers and young enthusiasts by J. Bentley Alstrop is also very good BUT long out of print, you can often find it on E-bay. It was published in 1968 and is still a very good gerbil care book.
Modern gerbil care books sadly tend to be based on hamster books and are often innacurate. Web sites written by fellow enthusiasts tend to be both more accurate and more readable.

I found a gerbil book yesterday ata half price store in houston. It was called "Gerbils" by Paul Paradise, I don't know how old it is but I know it's not new. I hope this helps.
