When does a gerbil stop molting ? And why is there a pattern on the fur when they molt ? ? ? ?

Gerbils moult their whole life! The pattern is caused by the difference in colour of the old and new hairs.

For some reason, most of my gerbils are going through a really noticeable molt right now. I have gerbils with very prominant molt lines that I've never even seen with a molt line before. I've had a couple of these gerbils for a good while. One in particular is my argente cream. I've had him for over a year and I've never seen him with a molt line, but he has a very strong one right now. Also my Schimmel, spotted Burmese, and one of my spotted lilacs have very obvious molt lines. I wonder if it's a seasonal thing?

I didn't even know that gerbils molted. Guess you learn something new every day....
