[glow=red,2,300]TEXT[/glow] I reacently got my two male gerbils a $8.00 wheel. The thing with it is that thay don't even use it a BIT!!!!! This really makes me wander why they don't sprint ,run ,or even walk on it! To add to my head ahce I got my gerbils from my friend .(who currently has about 20 of them all mongolian) all his gerbils sprint on them an my gerbils come from that long chain of gerbs . Peter(or anybody else for that matter) answer my BURNING question? I'm all ears ...............

Some gerbils just don't like going on wheels, mine took a while for them to like it and now they pretty much ignore the babies and run on the wheel all day! It's all about your gerbil's personality. Or, maybe they don't knwo how to use the wheel, have you tried placing them on the wheel? Also just out of curiosity, did you get a silent spinner? Those are great!

Some gerbils just need a litle time to understadn 'what' it is. I had oen who had no clue how to use it, and well now i can't keep her out of it I also had one gerbil who just used her's as a chew toy, so it's all in the personality of the gerbil.

Hi My 5 gerbils have never been interested in their wheel. I put it in their cage from time to time but all they would do is sit in it or try to climb on it. I was told that my wheel was too small and it should have been "closed" all around but honestly I don´t want to spend a fortune on one of those "perfect" wheels just to find out that my gerbils still don´t feel like using it. They are busy enough digging and doing other things.

I have 2 gerbils. One loves the wheel, and the other one doesn't want anything to do with it. I guess it's just differences in personality.

Rats and other 'wallhuggers' benefit form 'closed' wheels (Mine had a wodent wheel). This is because they are animals whose lifestyle involves staying close to cover. Gerbils are desert animals, wide open spaces are normal for them and therefore an enclosed wheel is not necessary. What you should not used is an unadapted rung wheel as paws and tails can be damaged. To adapt one simply thread cardboard round and hold in place with non_toxic tape. Size IS important for any rodent, bigger is better as long as they can turn it. As I no longer own rats my wodent wheel is now used by gerbils when in their playpen and they enjoy it very much.

I think gerbils have to be introduced to wheels young for them to understand how to use them and what fun they are! I have had gerbils that didn't use them. Now I make sure all my pups get "wheel" time so they know what those crazy things are for!

I like the swings, but my sister is afraid of them. Gerbils can have personality traits too! ;D
