I have two gerbils that I got two weeks ago. When I got them, they were 8 weeks old, and now they are 10. They are both males. My nutmeg male, Sukist, looks just about the same, but my black male, Charcoal, is really starting to get fat! Is he growing, or is he just plain fat? If he's fat, what kind of food should I give him? Sunflower seeds are not part of his regular diet, and they are both males, so he is not a girl and pregnant! :Plol! Fat or growing? Please reply!

Hey, I can only speak from my own expirence but I'd say he was just growing. When my boys got to around 10 weeks Hendrix really started to bulk up, I was worried that he was fat but then I looked around on the net at pics and concluded it was bulk. Harrison on the other hand just seems to be a long, skinny gerbil. If you're not over feeding them with the sunflower seeds, I'd say it's nothing to worried about, although I'm not an expert.

I hope its not a pregnant female thats happened to tons of people, they get their pet from a pet store, is told its male and never bother to sex it for themselves and then they find little pinkies one day in the cage. My male orlando is bulking up, he looks more fat when hunched, when hes on the floor crawling around and scenting everything he looks a bit more streemlined.

From my experience, male gerbils 'bulk up' and get their 'manly' look as they grow. I really hope the gerbil's not a girl.... ;D
