Well, it is summer here in Virginia - That means heat, humidity, yadi, yada, yada. My room is usually colder in the winter and warmer in the summer because it is the farthest from the heater/ac. I keep a ceiling fan going in my room during the day so it doesn't get too hot for the gerbils. Is just one fan (on high) too drafty?

I dont think so, I think the drafs you really need worry about as those really cool damp ones, Im sure the gerbils appreciate the air flow

In the wild, gerbils hide in the shade underground. Seeing as they can't do this in captivity, the fan probably helps them out a little
