Does anyone else have dificulty tempting their gerbils out of a tank when it's play time? When Mine were temporarily in their cage, I only had to open the side door, and they'd be climbing out into the playpen (which I set up around the cage, and then moved the cage out of).
However - in their tank, with nice deep shavings, It usually takes about 5 minutes to get them out of hiding, even if they looked as if they wanted to come out!
It's a different story getting them back in the tank though - takes quick hands to get them both in without the first getting out!

Mine are in a bin cage so its similar to a tank in the I need to reach down and pick them up. Mine will run and hide under things when I put my hand it, but as soon as I rustle their bedding or food in their food dish they come out to investigate and sniff my hand. Ill usually lay my hand flat facing up against the bedding and let them crwal on and then lift them up. Or esle they just get use to my hand in there and then I pick them up try moving the food around in the food bowl so they hear to sound of it moving around, as if you were filling it, that usually gets mine running. Good luck!

Mine don't hide, they just play "Let's-run-around-and-annoy-Lauren-to-death" game. And both cages do it! Yet if I let them out on the floor, they're begging to be let out again! Lil' bums...

Two of mine are more shy than the others, and will run away, but the other four are jumping for freedom when the tank opens.

Mine don't usually hid at all, but they just don't like to be help...my two new girls are a little better about it(they were kept by a little girl and her mother for a breif time and apparently were tamed a bit in their keeping).
