I have just bought back my first gerbils... they are five little boys, just four weeks old. i decided to rescue them because i saw them in terrible conditions in a pet shop and i didnt want to leave them there! they were in a tiny tiny tiny cage, it was too small for even one mouse they were on sawdust and the lady kept trying to pick them up by the tail, and i heard this is very bad
they are very small. i have been trying to learn what i can and they have a sand bath, food, watet, toilet roll tubes, boxes and a log bridge arc thingy. i have put lots of woodshavings in for them to burrow.
i have named them Ed,Todd,Kyle,Rodney and Bambi (bambi wasnt my choice)
i will get pictures soon but i want to let them settle down a little first

Congratulations shibby69! I'm sure you will like them. Four weeks is very young, but possible. Personally I did sell my gerbils only when they were 5 weeks old. Sad that they were kept so bad in the pet shop.
And...who's choise was Bambi than? ;D

Hi shibby, if they are so young it might be a good idea to give them some oatmeal and millet, smaller seeds that are softer for their little pup teeth. And make sure they can reach the water bottle ok! Can you tell boys from girls yet?

congrats on your new gerbs i agree on whats been said, whenever its possible check the sexes. How big is your tank? you will need at least 25 gallons for 5 gerbils especially when they get bigger.

Yup, budgie sprays of seed. They love'em! By oatmeal, I mean quick oats, same as you'd eat for breakfast.
And remember that you should seperate the sexes by six weeks, which is not long from now if they are 4 weeks old. So you will need another tank soon!

Warning...millet is a stimulant to gerbils...if you feed lots they may be bouncing of the cage walls [even more lol]. This sn't a big problem with pups but can be a pain with adults. I give pups a mixed finch food with their main mix, it does contain millet but also other grains. Or a wild bird seed is a good option too.
