Once upon a time, there were two, then there were seven as I adopted those off someone who couldn't keep them. The first two were "boys" who had pups, the others were supposedly separated by sexes, but accidents happened! I accidentally paired two females with a male. I immediately pulled the male out, even distracted him from getting his groove on, LOL... but he succeed with the other female who had ten pups, first try.
My original goal was one breeder pair, but upon adoption of the others, bam bam bam! Had I not adopted out some already, I'd have over sixty gerbils, but right now, the count is at thirty-five. I assume the thirty-five will go down because the last litter from the boys who magically give birth (truthfully, one is a girl and one is a boy, they were mis-sexed at the pet store) they had six, but are down to three now (someone is hungry??).
Anyhow, all that said, I have too many gerbils!! I've posted on the local pet's list, I've posted in the paper, and I've given word of mouth. But, I still have too many gerbils. The breeder pair will be separated after her current babies are grown. I want to wait till they are weaned so dad isn't left alone. I know she'll give birth to one more litter, maybe? I thought she was done as she hadn't given birth since early March.
When this happens to you, when you have too many gerbils, oh please tell me, what do you do???

ha! I posted signs today in a few more places. I hope to get some more out of here, otherwise I'm going from 11 tanks to 500, LOL! Just kidding. Everyone is being separated into same-sex pairs, no doubt. Most of these gerbils came from the 7 I adopted... she said they were separated, LOL

How far is Indiana from Missouri? I ask because I might take some off your hands. You can AIM me user ID KansasCityKennel or Yahoo messanger ID Jykle2 or evans-katherine. Or you can email me at KansasCityKennel@aim.com First and foremost seperate dad from mom, or they will MOST deffinitely have more pups. Dad can be alone for a short period and not be harmed. Or pair him with some of the other males you have. Make tripple sure that there are no females with males and that will keep you from getting more gerbils. Push come to shove split cage so dad won't mate with mom anymore. No matter what if you do not want more pups you must seperate dad from mom! Best thing to do is keep posting available pups everywhere. Go to the AGS site and post on their classifieds that you have gerbils available. Post on every free classified place you can find, and post on Petfinder.com. It is a great resource, just do not say you had a boom and that is why they need homes they will not let your ad post. Just state how many gerbils you have, sexes and colors and adoption fee. They will not let you post they are free. After screening people if you want to yes you can give them away for free but do not advertise them as such. Good luck and I hope to hear from you!

I'm not really sure, but St. Louis isn't but 4 hours from me I think. My zip code is 47713.
I'm definitely getting those males out of those two tanks. We started off wanting a breeding pair, but then had those others come in and they were not separated. I've got those all separated now, but still have two pairs together until these babies grow up. Then the dads are coming out. I know there'll be another set with one girl, but the boy will be gone and I'll leave her with a daughter.
My own daughter, she's become quite the expert in sexing the gerbils... I won't do it anymore! I made a mistake twice and now I leave that up to her. She's never wrong, LOL
Let me know if you're still interested and we'll go from there.

My grandmother and I have 8 gerbils together, and I think they are a bit many, but I'm used to it now. They all live in pairs. Originally I only wanted two gerbils.
