That's not a stupid question. However, there are a million threads about it. What exactly is the 'normal way'? In my opinion you should try to tame them the same way as you would a younger one. But that's just my opinion. I'm sure someone has a better answer. I'm SURE.

lol @ 'normal' way...it certainly is an interesting phrase. Normal will really depend on how you tame yours. Mine are generally 'tamed' by regular contact from birth!! In practical terms I think taming of a new gerbil or a gerbil who's become less social should be done through regular contact. Some can be just verbal, talking to your gerbil whenever you go near his/her cage. Associating your hand with treats etc can be good (but if your hands are ONLY associated with food/treats you may get nipped a lot). Just sitting with your hands in the cage, again talking away. Always 'scoop' the gerbil, never grab from above. Never handle by the tail. Try to avoid holding tight or restraining the gerbil. Get them out with you, allow them to climb on you. Generally yes it's just getting to know each other again, building up his/her confidence (and yours). Good luck.

ah now I understand whats going on. She doesnt like being enclosed or restrained...it makes her feel trapped. Few gerbils like being restrained so she is perefectly normal, you just need to train her that biting is not allowed.
