I bought them from petsmart (I KNOW: I AM NO GOOD. ) i was just wondering if anyone had some tips and tricks on how to make them like me? I'm starting to get a complex the way they always hide when I try to grab them by the tail (I kid, I kid. Always the double hand scoop) I've tried bribing them with sunflower seeds, but they ususally just grab them out of my hand then hide in their house.

It will take patience. Put your hand in there and let them sniff you. Then place some sunflower seeds on your hand so that your hand will be associated with something good. If they start nibbling on your hand, push them off a bit. My gerbils also assosiate a "shaking sound" with food.

Don't worry! I breed gerbils in Edmonton, and not a lot of people even realize I exist! The Petsmart that you bought them from, the one I work at, takes very good care of the gerbils, play with them, and they're all checked by a vet. As far as petstores go in Edmonton, my Petsmart (I can't vouche for the other ones), and Paradise Pets are the only two that I would ever buy an animal from or trust with my gerbils. The care is very strict! Just put your hands down in the cage, and let them come over and sniff you. Give them treats, and they will eventually associate your hand with treats and getting to come out of the cage. If you put them in your bathtub or on your bathroom floor, you can sit down with them and let them climb all over you. All of my gerbil pairs get to run around the bathtub everyweek, and this is how I tame my pups! Good luck! You can always email me at ccgerbilclan@gmail.com if you need help, or drop by the Petsmart and Ask for Devon.
