I wrote months ago about adopting 2 of 4 gerbils from a local shelter. Then one of the 2 I adopted died. I couldn't put three in a 10 gallon tank and cannot easily keep or clean a 20 gallon tank, so I did not want the other 2. We also had a couple of vacations planned and my neighbor already was watching my many other animals. I tried to find someone to adopt the 2 left at the shelter and couldn't, so after our vaca's I went to get the other 2. They originally had the four in a 20 gallon tank with shredded paper a food dish and a water dish (yecch). Now they had the 2 in a 10 gal with a bottle and a wheel, but in cedar shavings. They have bright red noses and mouths and their fur looks greasy. The shelter gave me the tank and all, so I cleaned it out and gave them proper bedding and a tissue box to chew and fresh food and water and a second wheel so they can stop knocking each other out. I let the first gerbil we have out to see them through the glass and none of the gerbils seem to notice or be interested in the other?! So that's the story, the shelter is relieved of their gerbil duties and we have two more happy friendly critters in our house.
