On abcgerbils.com, they mentioned putting tissue boxes with tissues in them in the tank. Is this a better idea that without the tissues?

I think that would get quite expensive if you put a full box in there . And it could get quite messy. I would just add the box and then give then 2-3 tissues seperately.

It would probably be messy , expensive, and if they peed it would go through many. Are tissues okay? I thought that toilet paper was okay. Also, how about paper towels?

Tissues, toilet paper, and paper towels are all OK, as long as they're plain white, unscented, and don't have reinforcing fibers. No lotion in the tissues, either. The best kinds are the really cheap ones.

I dunno about giving them the full box on a regular basis! lol
You should see a gerbil with a whole toilet roll it hilarious!! they grab the end of it and run lol.. not something I would recommend on a lot but when they are out on there exercise time I am sure it won't hurt.

You should see a gerbil with a whole toilet roll it hilarious!! they grab the end of it and run lol.. I tried that once. All they did was dig and scratch at it to shred it, take some for a nest and then they used it as a toilet and peed on top of it. And they used it as a toy and kept running through the tube/middle of it..but they wouldn't try to chew the tube. That thing reeked. Never did it again.
