A few people have said that the set up I have for my gerbies is pretty neat. It's a large tank divided in half with sand on one side and bedding on the other. Well, I was thinking...if someone couldn't do that to their current cage, then how about this idea...
Get one of those rubbermaid bins, like for blankets or whatever, and put a couple inches of play sand in it with some flower pots or other things for them to play on. You could use it for a playground. Put them in and let them dig for a while, then when they get tuckered out, put them back in their cage and stick the lid on the rubbermaid. We use a strainer to clean the sand, works great. Sound like a decent idea?

Sounds like a great idea since they love sand and you can contain the "mess" they make with the sand and the other mess they make with their "hinies" ;D

I've just rehoused my male gerbil into his new aquarium, so the storage box he was living in has now become a sandy playpen. Thanks for a great idea, it's really going to help me with socialising the babies as I can handle them much easier from the box.

I just tried it out on my two after they got restless running on the bed. I put some sand, some cardboard tubes, a Timber Hide-away, a handful of hay, and a woven grassy bird nest (Lemmi's fav). They had a blast! This is such an awesome idea!

YOu could also use strips of wood from wildlife around, and use a tunnel to connect it. Every couple of days I put my Gerbs in a set up of building blocks from when I was 2. they love it!!!! If you put a few milk drops in hiding places, they run around for hours on end!

Paws, I am having a hard time understanding what you are saying. Please clarify. I am also having a hard time trying to visualize it. If you have a picture, that would be great too . Thanks
