Gerbils in a jar. (They can jump in and out easily.) Now nothing can stop them getting 2nd breakfast... except a lid lol.

This is Lily collecting food. She's currently in full on "we're ALL going to STARVE" hoarding mode, which means any and all hoardable food is whisked underground to her secret store cupboard. Hoardable food means seeds and pellets. She never hoards any kind of animal protein, even if it's dried. I assume that's some kind of natural instinct to not store things that might rot in their natural (non-dried) state. She also never hoards anything wet, like vegetables. I find it interesting how logical her behaviour is sometimes!

Lol on hoarding mode And impressive on her hoarding logic too! She's a very logical animal, and she has a great memory. Once she was scrabbling frantically and obsessively at the lid of a plastic storage box. She looked crazy but actually it was because the last time she was out, the box was open and she had a great time playing in the scrap paper I keep in there. She was trying to dig through the lid, which is quite logical from a gerbil's perspective! I only free roam them in the evenings and sometimes late afternoons, and Lily knows this and never expects it any other time. However once, I let them out in the early morning as a one off. That was a mistake because Lily then loudly demanded to be let out at that time every day for a couple of weeks, until she finally forgot about it. So "one offs" don't really work with Lily because she remembers and expects the same again.
