Ok. So I hadn't been in the petshop for a long time... which is a good thing... but I was in the area, and I couldn't help myself, so I stopped in. They had something in a tank that was labeled "JIRD." The little sign said that they were from Africa (of course, this is the petshop that couldn't sex Mongolians correctly, so I have no idea if that's true). They looked to be larger than the average Mongolian, with a longer tail and a more prominent tuft. Their faces looked more like something from the Gerbillus genus than the Meriones. The face was more pointed and the eyes were more prominent than a Mongolian. Now that I'm all excited I'm going back tomorrow to get the scoop... take some photos... maybe bring one home no, I need to find out more information, first. If they could tell me their breeder/ supplier, that would be great. Don't know if they'll do that. What do you think it was?

possibly persian Jird?? or possibly a shaws with just more of a pointed face? i'd find out for definite which species they are before bringing one home lol! but i'd be careful, if it says they're from Africa, there may be a chance that they've actually just been shipped from the wild! i'd give them a real good check over before buying them and ask (as you said) about the supplier or something can't wait for pics!

sounds like a Persian Jird to me and the seasons right to have little ones about as they only breed twice a year, one of those times was just recently!
they have longer faces than Shaws Jirds - they're like little bush babies and yes I believe they are from Africa. I would be totally jelous if anyone else had these and I would desperatly like some!
