I met some Persian Jirds on the weekend and fell totally in love with them, but they have to live in pairs and would require A LOT of space as they need to climb. As they're not able to jump up wards they'll need to leap diagonally accross a "home!".
I found out, however, that Shaws Jirds are quite content living on their own so I'd dearly love to get one of those in the not too distant future.
If anyone knows someone who breeds them could they let me know please? In the meantime I'd be pacified with some pictures if anyone has those too?

ooh did you go to the Reading Show naomi then? ;D Sue had some baby Persian Jirds (who all got sold on the first day! ) that were really cute! ;D only female shaws like living on their own, so be sure to get a sigle female, not a single male they need about double the space for a mongolian (a 20gal tank would be good for a single female) and they also need lots of time and attention, as they can easily get bored the female shaws are still at my petshop methinks (been there for months ) hope they find a home soon!

hiya! sorry i havn't replied to your pm yet angela, i've been sooo busy (total homework overload around 7 hourse of homework a week now ¬_¬ it's ridiculous!) ! yes, my local petshop ('Pets Choice', 3 Churchyard, Hitchin, Herts) still has 2 female Shaws Jirds (although she still seems to insist that they won't fight together, despite the fact that they're in the same cage and they're both females : they must be a good few months old now, and they're still looking for a loving home! when they first got them, they seemed to be of good stock and were nice and gentle, but i'm not sure how they are now as i'm not sure how much they get handled these days yeah, i know Sue (not personally, just met her at shows) hehe the Persians were soo adorable n_n
