Rameses looks just like Karus! ;D Karus is supposed to be a Cheesman though...or a Cheesman-pallid hybrid, but he looks like a Cheesman. Pics for comparison: As a side-note, I wonder if they're related?

Where did you get them from? It's quite likely that they are related It is probable that all pallid/cheeseman gerbils in the UK are hybrids, and probably most are related!!! The hybrid situation is because when they where originally bought to the UK they where often misidentified and the species mixed up. Ed tells me mine are very close to true pallid type and I can certainly see a little difference of face shape. Maybe Ed can tell us more In reality we should call them all Gerbillus hybrids but I think it is likely those with more pallid character will be labeled pallids and those with more cheeseman character labeled cheeseman.

I got Karus from Michelle Barnes; apparently she originally had both him and his mother for a while and got them both from someone else, but I don't know who.
I call Karus a Cheesman because he looks like one; but at the one show he's been at, I was told although he looked like a Cheesman, he was probably part pallid. (Never having owned either before, I can't say if he behaves like a Cheesman as opposed to a pallid).
Personality-wise, he is incredibly nosy and doesn't scare easily (he runs, then he comes back to check what it was that startled him, lol). He likes to climb on my head if he's on my shoulder, or run down my arm (he thinks I'm his personal road system).

Yes exactly I should say that sadly Rameses had suffered more serious injuries in the fall and I lost him a week later He is sadly missed.

Aw, that is too bad. They are such lovely, delicate little things. Is it me, or do they have longer fur than mongs--or is it just because they are smaller?

I think the fur is the same. It is very fine, which means it's prone to clumping and they need regular sandbaths, or even to be kept on sand. Talking of which...must order sand...........
