I think it's not good. I have gotten confused with it. Once I was going to exalt someone, but I forgot what they meant and I smited them on accident. I feel so stupid!!!!

Hmm... I don't think we should keep it either. I mean, if a random person comes on here and is bored and decides to use the feature to smite everyone, or target one person, imagine how the person (people) being targeted will feel. I voted no, sorry.
BTW... lol I like the words 'exault' and 'smite' hehehe

I voted "no" only because I don't use it. I have read a lot of the threads on here and have not seen anyone that immature here that would use the feature for causing trouble, so I don't think that's a reason to discontinue it. If the word "karma" is upsetting people, other boards I am on use the word "reputation". You have to be careful, though. This day an age you can't say anything without offending someone. And the internet draws people of all walks of life so it's even easier to do so on here. This board is full of knowledgable and helpful people so I don't think either option will hurt the board, with this crew, you can only improve it

Honestly, I voted Yes because it was here when I first joined. It isn't bothering me at all. The only thing that would bother me is if people made a fuss over it since Peter said it is put here only for fun. Personally, if someone were to smite me without any obvious reason then I'm just going to have to live with it for the simple fact that it is not a big deal and won't affect me unless I let it. This is a message board and I feel that if you are sending messages to real people, giving good advice & being friendly should come hand in hand. If you were smited for being unfriendly, I think you may have deserved it. Nobody's here for anyone to be rude to, we're people who joined out of the love of gerbils so we come here for caring advice & support.
edit: All I'm saying is, I'm not against the Karma feature but if it is taken out for sure I really wouldn't mind. Like doomgerbiluk said "Life's too short to let a number on a forum upset you."

I like the idea...I think people here are mature enough to handle it, and if they aren't, then Peter will deal with it. I'm sure we can all handle it, and it just adds a bit to the forum. I vote yes, keep it.

I voted to remove it. I think that the negatives outweight the positives. Actually, I can't even think of any positives. haha
Other than the one time I smited someone by accident, because I thought they were just links and clicked on it, I haven't paid any attention to it. I don't really care how many karma points someone has...doesn't mean anything to me. You don't know why they have that many, why they got them or why they got them taken away and I guess it's too much of a labeling/judging type thing, which I don't like.

I think it's pointless, before I found out what it was, I clicked on both, and was SO confused as to why both links took me to the SAME place! I see NO point in it, and I thought the forum was just fine without it. I do however, like to see the location, rank, gender and posts though. Seriously, if it's a huge thing for you to remove the Karma thing, I don't really care. If some body is going to get butt-hurt because their points are low, then I'd hate to be them! There are more important things in life, and chances are that somebody accidently clicked on it (which I've done) or they don't know what it is. I voted no just because I do think it's pointless, but if it stays I really don't care. They're just numbers. I love your forum Peter, and everybody does a nice job keeping it up with you. Who cares about the Karma. I don't care either way.

I voted 'no' because I think that it can be awkward. On another forum, one person has karma -19 and I have no idea how she got it that low, because she is really nice! Yesterday I had 3, today I have 2! I don't know what I did! I have checked through my posts, nothing offensive! I wish we could take off the smite option, because it just insults people and even though there's no use getting my knickers in a twist I don't like it!

I wish we could take off the smite option, because it just insults people and even though there's no use getting my knickers in a twist I don't like it! I found that I had 5 karma and I was suddenly down to 0 and I couldn’t think of any reason people were smiting me so much, I felt I hadn’t said anything wrong. So I contacted the admin here and found out someone smited me five times in a row... he added the karma amount back which was nice, But see its just a pain in the back nuisance, I still say we are better off without it! Besides, what are good grounds to smite someone? Is it right to smite someone just because you have a difference of opinions? I don’t think that’s right because people have the right to their own opinions. If anyone is to ever be smited it should be because they were flaming or acting rude in a obvious hateful manner. I think most people just smite because difference of opinion… Here is another scenario probably commonly found here on the forum. Someone post information that is to the best of “their” knowledge and happened to be incorrect. Someone smites them because its wrong rather then giving them the correct information and the opportunity to learn and pass on the correct information. You cant place judgments so fast without waiting for the other persons way of reaction to the situation, its simply unfair, and I don’t think people really know what are good grounds to smite someone.

The problem with Karma is that the unpopular people wont get any negitive or positive feedback...

The problem with Karma is that the unpopular people wont get any negitive or positive feedback... I agree. I think there should be an explanation for a karma point either + or -. -Jeremiah
