IP addresses (different from the last one....)

*Hope I picked the right area to post this....*

I need some help. PLEASE! I've got an IP address from somebody who's interested in my car. Actually- this all happened a while ago- but long story short, I got nailed- BAD, and got stuck in the middle of a huge scam, and my local poliece department won't do anthing about it. (Comforting, huh?)

But I have the IP address from the emails, but now I don't know what to do with it! I want to find out where they're coming from. What state, country, anything. I don't know anything about this 'area' of computers, so I need help! If any of you can help me out, it would be awesome.... I can get the IP address....

It appears that "he" (I assume it's a "he") lives in Sunnyvale, CA.

Also, you should remove the information at the bottom of the message... it includes a little information about you. Plus, I don't know if the guy would want his IP address/ email broadcast around the world, even though that's what you do every time you go on the internet... anyway... hope this helps a little.

I still don't get it. I thought that the 'correct' IP address was in the "Recieved: from" and that says amsterdam.... I'm so confused, and quite frankly, I dont give a rats rear if his info is all over the gerbil forum... lol.... that's funny. he caused me much greif, and I'm just finishing paying off the nearly $3,000 debt he left in my bank account. So.... I'm apparently not following this very well...

Honestly, I'm not sure. I thought that the "Originating IP" would be his IP... the "Received from" IP would be the last stop before it hit your inbox. I'm not really the best person to help with this type of stuff, though... that sucks that he scammed you

Yes, that sucks.... but it sucks more that I fell for it.... and even more that when I took the check to the bank, I told the teller the entire story and said that I wanted to make sure things were safe for me, and if the check should be held before forewarding the remaining funds, and they told me "NO" because the check was "FINE" And they won't take ANY responsibility.... but hey- sometiems life sucks.... and just because you TOUGHT you were covering your butt, doesn't mean that you were right! And just because your bank insures accounts, doesn't mean that you should really trust them! I'm kinda over it now.... I've got the money to pay it off, but I'm thinking of holding off and getting a loan to cover that ammount, that way I can build credit off the last thousand I owe. So... to make you laugh....

ROFL! ;D HA! Really worth it, huh? Yeah... but yesterday I sold it.... an entire $450- but hey, I only paid $200, and spent less than $100 to fix it.... and plus I learned to drive a manual with it, and learned how to work on the car.... AND it taught me about internet scams... SO...

Ritzie, you lost money to someone? Sorry to hear. Don't you have a bank account number of the person you've payed? If so, you might visit the police. Addresses can be retrieved through a bank account number.

IP addresses are number addresses of computers. When someone use a public computer the IP number can change.

Thanks Peter, but they were "smart" and I was "dumb". I was forewarding the money to a "representitive of the shipping company." The CEO to be exact, because the CEO was making the arrangements. Well, That was Western Union. Not a bank account. That's why I was asking about an IP address. I wanted to know at least where it was coming from
