Request for a new forumI'm not sure what you think, but rehoming animals is always a worthy cause and I thought it might be good to have some kind of way to promote rehoming and rescue centres as much as we give an open forum for breeders. I think it might balance out the number of people who take up breeding on a whim too. (Definitely not against breeding btw, just irresponsible breeding). I've just been thinking about getting more gerbils, but want to give a second chance to some older gerbies instead. Can't find many websites for places that rehome gerbils, but I know that these places exist as many of them use the pet rescue forums. I just think that the centres would benefit more from appealing to people who have a keen interest in gerbs, and at least that way they're going to owners with experience in most cases. Bit of a random idea, any thoughts? www.cavyrescue.co.uk/cgi-bin/rehome.plwww.animalrescuers.co.uk/html/rabferr.htmlpet-rescue.org.uk/forums/etc

Good Idea methinks! This chappie hasn't actually got a web-site yet as far as I know, but he rescues Rodents! especially Shaws and Degus so anyone looking for the more unusual gerbil - look no further! ;D Rodent Rescue UK Melbourn Cambridgeshire Tel: 01763 262274 e-mail: pjd@nildram.co.uk Caroline

I just haven't seen anything promoting it in the U.S. The rescues/ rehomes that I have had came from 1) outside and 2) freecycle.

Excellent idea! The US site I've heard of most is Petfinder: www.petfinder.com/There are (sadly) lots of gerbils and just about any other animal you can think of. Tracy

We don't really have an equivalent here in the UK (though it would be good if we did) - I think this could be a good contribution to the forum though.
On a side note, I saw a baby marmoset monkey for sale on the internet the other day, I don't know how on Earth it could be legal... People think too much about self gratification and not enough about the welfare of their animals.

tamworth its a she but she died in the first week but we have some of her piglets. We have a female fr breeding a shes like a pet. we also have a male who is for stud as a lot of male pigs were euthanised ater owners found out tht they had been castrated shortly after birth or sent for butchery. When we got the mum who we named Betty She gave birth 3 days later she was from an animal hoarder who died and her son came back home to deal withstuff and when he wen into her house she had 224 anmimals running around. many died of pure neglect or untreatd helth problems. the sonsigned ver all animals to a rescu centre throughout Britiaain and I got come tamwrths

I'm so glad I just came across this post, I am getting some gerbils (preferably little old ones to come and live the rest of their days with me) from a rescue centre that has 60 homeless ones in. I've not used this centre before but I was going to start a new thread advertising all of these gerbils that need homes, I'm glad I didn't start a new thread as this one's already here !!! Here's the website to the rescue centre: www.arrc-online.infoIf you can help by taking a few on that'd be great, I emailed about rehoming a few on and they sounded really enthusiastic so that leads me to believe that there's not much call for the gerbies (just an observation, I could be wrong) !!! Tony ;D

I'm currently part of a hermit crab forum (Crab street journal) online & they have this really great adoption thing going on. People list pets that are up for adoption (not through rescues) and they fill out an application which is then reviewed (and rather than turning someone down they tell them what they could improve before adopting) and stuff like that.

I will also add the website of my local Humane Society to the list: ottawahumane.ca/petharbor.htmlAs I write this, there are currently 5 seven week-old gerbils up for adoption. There were eight available earlier today, and I took the plunge and adopted three adorable agouti girls. Also up for adoption are several rabbits, guinea pigs, a degu, and lots of friendly, pretty ratties. It was very difficult to leave with just three baby gerbies! I dearly hope that all these creatures will find loving homes. Linda

Well done for adopting 3 of the gerbils !!! It's great when people give animals a second chance, Everyone that adopts a rescue animal should give themselves plenty of praise !!! The animal certainly shows it's appreciation !!!
