Hi I was just wondering if anyone has any control over the sort of things that are advertised in that Google ad's banner just underneath the gerbie on the keyboard at the top of the screen? I just saw an ad for small animal guilotines for lab use! I don't suppose anything can be done, but I thought I'd mention it. I've seen quite a few inappropriate adverts considering this is an animal lovers forum. Angela

I think it's just an automated script that scans the page content and picks ads that "match". I've seen the guillotines ad several times. I just ignore that whole bar.

odd...I used to see Google ads at the top of the page but now I don't? I guess either Opera hides them or Kaspersky does...

I'm using Firefox, and I have an add-on/extension that blocks them.

What've you got for Firefox that blocks banners, Nicole? I've got pop-ups blacked, but nothing for banners. That would certainly be useful.

lol ;D I guess I can see fisherman using colored maggots. Imagine what the fish must think when they see neon maggots floating about! Most of the banners on my page are about gerbils.

We have indeed no control on the adds by google. They select add by searching for keywords, as you have discovered. Like when you're talking about a ban on hunting, you are likely to find adds for hunting trips, etc. So sometimes you will see adds that you don't like. But we cannot do anything about it.

Get FireFox and the NoScript add on and you won't see any ads anywhere. ;D

Personally Adds don't bother me, i have no popups, sometimes they are usefull, for links to sites so, i'll be leaving mine on, i'd only be bothered if, i frequented porn sites, which i don't, that's when the Adds and, popups would bother me, because thats when the really dodgy Adds and, popups start.

I don't like pop-ups either. But those google-ads don't bother me. In fact I'm happy with them! Why? Because of them this forum is totally free!
