I Just want to give a thumbs Up to the Moderators and their new changes to the board. It seems as The Gerbil Forum grows we need to enforce new policies, and it's nice to see changes to keep this site enjoyable for all. Are there any plans to add 'titles' to more advance gerbils fanciers (Say like Sandy & Doom)? If not I would like to toss something out there as an idea to go over. Maybe have a 'rating system' but people could come by that rating by others on the forum giving it to them, say "so-and-so" has 4 people say they are extremely knowledgeable then they are ranked to a certain name of sorts. This would just help people know what the information they are getting is coming from. That's my thoughts at least Keep up the good work Guys & Gals!

I agree. Our mods are nice, and I like them! (don't worry- I liked y'all before you were mods too...) Yeah- I like the idea of having 'acreditated' sources, but then you have that matter of opinion. Like, if I have genetic questions- I first go to Sandy then to Shootingstar. (both are great, but I know Sandy personally) It's a great idea *I think* but only if we can all be adults about it.

LOL i was going to post the exact same thing, a rating system! I think that if a question is asked by a member, then they rate the answers given by members, or other members can rate the input given. Is this possible? i think a little bit of the fun has been taken out of the forum with the ratings, but i can understand why it has happened. I also think that a good idea would be to "up" the joining age to around 16 instead of 13. Just some thoughts!

I can't see a rating System working, as I can see some ignoring good post's just because they don't have a good rating, so alot of good information ignored.
I agrea about uping the joining age, no offence to are younger members, but in the UK you can not buy and animals if your under 16 so maybe the joining age should relflect this.

I have a suggestion! ;D Seeing as MANY of us have enjoyed playing games in the past (and especially when the gerbily bits of the forum are quiet) could we have a 'Games Board' in the off-topic section I thought maybe it could be excluded from the 'last 10 posts' thingy and also members would not have their posting scores increased by using it too, then it wouldn't interfere with the running of the gerbil boards. Well? Can we? Pleeeeeeease!!! ;D Caroline

I'm not sure about the 'titles' idea, personally. I can see some people getting offended because they're only called a 'Newbie' or whatever and someone else is classed as having more knowledge than them, just because they've been on the forum for longer - so more people know their name, or because they've been keeping / breeding gerbils for longer. For example - how many of us would rate Doom or Sandy or Shootingstar etc. highly becuase they've been here for ages and we all know them and how much experience they have? Then a new person comes along and we know nothing about them, or perhaps they have conflicting views - look at the long debates that were had with sirius (I think, please correct me if I'm wrong) because many of us were opposed to some of the methods used. I'd say ratings could become a bit of a 'popularity contest'.
I don't think I agree with upping the age restriction either - younger users can still post as guests and still cause problems, if they're going to, and we do have some younger users who contribute to the forum positively - isn't ohmylokix 15? (Again forgive me if I'm remembering wrong..)
To be honest most of the arguments and offensive threads I've noticed recently are started by one of two users - almost every thread I read that has been started by one of them has turned into an argument. I'm not trying to get at anyone, I just wanted to suggest a ban of repeat problem-causers. Or maybe a temporary ban - like a suspension?
Gosh I'm sounding awfully negative aren't I? I don't mean to, honest. =)

Hmm titles... do you mean like appointing them as mods? Yeh, I'm 15 as well, so I don't think that we'll be upping the age restriction (well not if I can help it o_0). The age restriction of 13 is actually set by proboards (something to do with US law or summink), and I don't see why we need to change it really. We're just gonna get more age liars like that, and as Delusional said, there are some very responsible owners that are between the ages of 13-16 - us young'uns, we're not all that bad And actually, a child at the age of 12 is legally allowed to buy a pet (by UK law), it's just that petshops have the rule of no one younger than 16 years Do you mean like the karma feature? Where members can give other members 'karma points' or can take them away too. I seem to remember that caused quite a bit of controversy at the time. People could end up giving their fellow members points simply because they like them or you could end with friends giving eachother points etc. It's an interesting idea, but I'm not sure how sustainable it'd be Hmmm a games room... I don't know - why can't you just use the Chat Room? We could organise schedulised 'chats' (for example) every Sunday at 7pm (although this could prove to be a problem with the time difference between countries)? The long games threads do clog up the board a bit, and I don't think there is anyway in which we could exclude the posts from your post count Thank you for your suggestions everyone, keep em coming in!

Well, I hadn't even noticed that the original rating system was gone. Geesh- I'm super observant, huh?
There's a difference between debate and an arguement. Debates are fine, and arguements- well, that's when people get their butts seriously hurt. As a moderator, their job is to kill all the but hurting thrads. I haven't noticed them missing any of them, but then again, I've not made my rounds very well lately with the 3 jobs and all.
How did I miss the absence of our old 'rating' system? I thougt it was fun. It didn't really mean anything, but like of course Peters says Admin, and then there's the mods who have their title, and like for Doom is said "former moderator" and of course Sandy is the "virtual judge" and I sure hope those titles are still there. (I haven't looked to see)

I can't use the chat room Ash because of the javascript Last time I tried it completed froze my computer which I was not happy about. Besides, does anyone actually use the chat room anyway So why can't the games board be excluded from the 'last 10 posts' thingy like I suggested? (and Ferrikins told us about earlier on whitty's thread). Then it wouldn't clog up the main boards Those of us who were playing yesterday (and previously) are certainly not interested in 'upping' our post counts anyway - we were just having a bit of fun that's all Caroline

AHHHH really busy today at work, but wanted to chime in with a "YEAH!" on Caz's suggestion of a Games Board, and not having those posts (or the posts in General Chat) count toward post count, Last 10 Posts, etc.
That is, if it's possible! But if it is, I think that is a perfect solution!! Thank you for suggesting it!!!
*hugs* Nicole

We have a chat room? Gosh, I've been far too busy then! Sorry. I know we have a chat section, but we actually have a chat ROOM now?? LIke for IM? Geessh... I gotta go find it!

I think the 'games board' in it's own section off the "last post count" would be a good idea. I don't play the games and dislike the chatter posts that go on and on forever. As for the age, yes I'd love to up the age, But I know there are allot of mature teens out there with exceptional animal care experience, and where else will they learn if not here?
On another board I am on, the moderators are the ones who give people their titles, so say they find this person has a great skill at... counting... they would write something like "Counting expert" as their title. And other members can PM the mod's suggesting quotes or names for members.

I think a separate games board is a great idea. We're all friends as well as sharing gerbie experience, and it's a nice way to get to know each other on a more personal level. I don't use the chat thing because no one is ever in there when I go on, so I've stopped looking. It takes quite a while to get into it, only to find there's no one there anyway. I agree that the age shouldn't be upped either. Kids deserve access to the info on this board just as much as adults do, and often they actually need it more too as they are younger and might find it easier to ask questions on here than getting someone to go to the library with them, for example (and we all know that most gerbil books are useless anyway ). And, as Issy rightly highlighted, there are many under-16's on this forum who are totally invaluable. Angela

Well I hope the Games Board comes off! ;D I'm sure you'll keep us informed if it's a go-er! *crossing fingers* I also think changing the age limit wouldn't really achieve anything, infact it would leave those youngsters with no-where to go. and seeing as this forum is the most up-to-date and friendly, that would be a real shame. I personally don't think that anyone needs a title as such except the staff - but that's just my opinion Caroline
