Unfortunately, I'm almost positive that Proboards does not offer a feature that allows a forum to not add to post count, or the last 10 posts.

I like the idea of members being ranked on how much useful information they give, that way newer member who are looking for help can see the how knowledgeable the person responding is and know they are getting quality advice and not some 'Oh im sure its fine" sort of deal.

Boards without a post count can be created. However, I don't think it can be excluded from the "10 most recent posts". But I will look into it. As for the custom Member Groups. We moderators are discussing this right now. Determining who are experienced members or not is too difficult I think. There are now Members Groups for previous staff members, namely "Forum Friend". And for Sandy, namely "Virtual Show Judge". We can consider other kind of groups, like "AGS Member" or "NGS Member", "Vet", "Vet Student", etc. We will look into thsi.

I think in this situation, age is NOT a factor. I have met plenty of 15 year olds that are more mature in animal care taking then some 20-30 year olds. It is a matter of listening and teaching. I had been thinking, alot of people get frustrated with repeating themselves. Well a lot of the important sticky posts, are spread throught the forum. Perhaps try making one sticky thread in general, that has all the essentials you need to know before buying your gerbils. Post here about all the basics, which bedding, warnings on plastic, having sam sex pairs..the base essentials that seem to escape some newer owners.
Also I have never like "titles" they can be fun if people are mature about it, but with a forum this big, you are just not going to have everyone with the same maturity level. Someone will always get jeleous that someone knows more then they do. Personally, I love finding out that some people on here or vet students or vet assistances. But my husband brought a valid point to me one day, "sam you are so excited that she is a vet student why?" "Well I KNOW she knows what she is talking about, she goes to school for it." My husband replied " You don't go to school for gerbils, if someone didn't take your advice about pine/cedar bedding because you didn't go to school for it, wouldn't that make you pretty mad"
darn husbands being right all the time! You can't always judge knowledge by a certificate. Alot of people learn the hard way, and sometimes that means even more knowledge then someone who knew what do from the start. When you learn the hard way, not only can you warn someone, but you can explain what happens if they DONT listen. Those are two creditable knowedge points. I of course am not condoining buying a gerbil before doing research. I am simply saying that people make mistakes, and other people can learn from those mistakes. I have only had my gerbils for a month! But as much research as I have done, I feel I have had them for years! Well That is really my two cents. I just hope the forum stays as useful and friendly as it has been. There have been a lot of things happened, I would be clueless without this place. For example I didn't know WHAT was happening when my two nutmegs started to molt! That isn't something you might read when researching gerbils, as I don't believe all gerbils molt the way nutmegs do!
Oh P.S I know it frustrates alot of people when we give advice, and people choose not to take it. Something that we all have to remember is we are capable of making our own choices. Instead of getting upset for those members that dont take our advice, lets rejoice in the members that do. If someone dosent take advice when it is first recieved, no matter how much they get nagged or withced at, the prolly wont change their minds, and it will be a waste of our energy and time from gerbil owners who will listen.

Yep I agree too, that is a great 'sticky' idea Amavanna! Thanks Peter and Ryan for looking into the 'last 10 posts' thingy (lol! I keep calling it that - thingy! ;D ) Anyway, I know you must think I'm a pain in the bum, but for those of us who are on here nearly every day (and for most of the day) and when the board is quiet on the gerbil front, and the chat room is empty or unaccessable (as in my case ) then we LOVE to play silly childish games!!!!! ;D (I know, we should know better! ) So it is sorta important to us if it can be done Ooo! and CONGRATS to Ryan and PepandMax in their promotions! ;D Caroline

Well, it turns out that even with a board that doesn't add to post counts, it still adds to the "Last 10 Posts". So, the rest of the mod team and I are going to discuss whether or not it's worth the "sacrifice" of the last 10 post feature.

Okey-dokes - thanks! ;D But like I said before, why not run a poll to find out how many are actually using the 'last 10 post' thingy? I certainly wouldn't want to upset people 'popping on' because their time is limited, after all it's got to be fair to ALL who use the forum Caroline
