Ive had gerbils for some time now. I currently have 4 a group of 2 females and a group 1 male 1 female. I have been using a shredded cardboard bedding and giving them cardboard and wood chews, they didnt like the weel so they dont have one. their house is a flower pot flipped over with a hunk chopped out. thats the females cage. i give them paper towels to shred for bedding. The male female cage is also cardboard bedding with ample cheweys. toilet paper for the bed room which is a large flower pot done up the same way.
My question what do you all use or reccomend for cage floor and bedroom?

I'm really experimental, this is just what I've been using. I'll probably change things around. I have 3 male gerbils since 7/04. I found some Aspen pellets which are supposed to be really absorbent compared to everything else. I also use corn cob as well as aspen. I usually put an initial layer of Aspen pellets and then fill in the gaps with corn cob. I wanted something really absorbent but I read that corn cob will tend to get funky quicker than other bedding. In the terrarium I top it off with Aspen. For their nest I use aspen exclusively. Then I let them go to town with cardboard and toilet paper. I will eventually integrate some sand for the lil spoiled brats ... maybe carefresh if they end up more spoiled than they already are.

I use Aspen for litter and toilet paper for bedding. I use a sturdy cardboard box for thier house since they do not use any thing else I put in there.
I know Pine and Cedar have too many oils that are harmful to the little guys. I have used Carefresh and they all (6) got red noses from it(allergic). It is also more expensive.
Hope that helps. I also have 1/2 coconut shells in there and bricks with holes that they can crawl through. There are pictures of peoples set ups in the Houseing topic under "show me your set up"
