Can I make wire screen lid, using fat plstic netting? In Poland I cant buy any wire screen lids, and shops selling metal nettings only in large rolls (the smallest has 5 metres long, and of course its price is quite big) Can I make plastic wire screen lid for cover, or gerbils could destroy it?

Hello there, There is a fair chance that if the gerbils can reach it they would eventually chew their way out. But what are the dimensions of your tank?(in centimetres) I might be able to send you some, itis not heavy, the postage fees should not be high.

No, you need to use wire. One of my gerbils was even able to chew through the thin wire mesh. If you use plastic, you are almost guarenteed to have a gerbil escape.

I agree, plastic no matter how hard is not hard enough to defend against gerbil teeth!! My gerbils chewed the plastic tubes and houses . I don't use any thing plastic in thier cages because of that. It would cost more to use plastic in the long run since you would have to replace it often. Also the risk of loosing one of your gerbils increases not to mention a possible vet bill if they get hurt..

it depends, i have 2 plastic tanks with plastic lids and it's never occurred to them to chew them, they're too busy destroying the wood/cardboard and burrowing
