As I mentioned in a previous announcement:
In order to cut down on some of the repetitive questions and to archive some of the most important information, we are creating a FAQ section!
It's split up into 8 sections: Forum Use, General Care, Health, Behavior, Housing, Breeding, Food, and Colors/Genetics. Each section will contain multiple topics pertaining to the section. The forum will be launched on August 19th, but articles may be added/edited after that date.
Here are the topics we already have:
Forum Use --How to Use the Forum --How to Post Pictures --How to Make a Signature Banner
General Care --How to Tame Your Gerbil --How to Weigh Your Gerbil
Health --Common Gerbil Ailments --When to Say Goodbye --There’s Something on His Belly! --Preventive Health Checks --Basic Gerbil Care --Your Emergency Kit
Behavior and Introductions --My (Same Sex) Gerbils Are Humping Each Other! --The Split Tank: Why and How
Housing --Gerbil Goodies: What the Pet Store Won’t Tell You --Litter/Substrate --Which Size Tank? --Why Choose a Tank
Breeding --Ethical Breeding --Checklist: Are You Really Prepared to Breed?
Food --How to Evaluate Gerbil (Staple) Foods --Commercial Gerbil Food Database --OK Foods for Gerbils --NOT OK Foods for Gerbils
Colors & Genetics --What Color is My Gerbil?
So, what would YOU like to see as topics covered in the FAQ forum?
Please post your ideas here!
Furthermore, we encourage you to write your own posts. Just write them directly into the existing, non-FAQ sections. We can move excellent, useful posts to the FAQ section.
Thanks!

yes i too am pretty good at finding toys for nearly nothing, i just got a stick of bamboo for a dollar at the dollar tree! And a peice of drift wood, really thick and sturdy for FREE! I am checking now to see if it is safe, ive been told by two people ( both work in the tennessee forstry so know about trees) that it is prolly spruce, but it has some water wear so they said it may have looked different before getting in the water, im checking now to see if spruce is safe, if so im gonna sand it wash it freeze it and watch them enjoy!
I just read spruce is unsafe, so now im nervous, I have no way of really telling what kind of wood this is, im gonna try to look up some pics see if i find a match
I was just told by someone that if its drift wood, the amound of time it is in water would take away any oils or harmful toxins in it, is this true, i can tell its drift wood, it is smooth from water erosion (sp?) and is very light weight

I would agree that that the water would probably remove the oils and what not- as you can see that it's completely transformed. However, I"d be inclined to freeze it first, as there's lots of "ickies" in the water. For sure I would.
